About Us: Combining years of gallery practice with a partnership in local development, ONCE REMOVED invites artists to inhabit vacant Seattle houses marked for demolition, and transform them through installation, sound, and performance. The project presents works that respond to these domestic architectures on the verge of erasure.
ONCE REMOVED is a meditation on impermanence. Both the site and the work it hosts will never be duplicated, existing only for a brief time before disappearing. The project seeks to create an eddy in the stream of gentrification, a space between vacating and construction, where artists can intervene in the city’s cycle of renewal.
By occupying these transitional sites, ONCE REMOVED offers an epilogue to each house’s long-existing story. The project embraces brevity as both material and subject, creating a space where art and architecture meet, coexist, and vanish together in a brief, deliberate act of transformation.
